Statue Of A Man

Description

This statue once embellished a balustrade on the upper level of the portico leading to the courtyard of an Umayyad castle. The man’s short curly hair and bearded face were inspired by the Roman portraits that figure so prominently in the art of Palmyra. Another sign of Roman influence is the fact that the man is dressed in a toga.
