Surrounded by a circular wall, this model of a building has a symmetrical structure. The square central room  has a horseshoe-shaped hearth and built-in benches in the corners. There are passages to the four surrounding rooms which again are connected to adjacent side rooms, one of which is covered by a roof with a chimney. The rest of the building is not roofed but is neatly finished at the top of the walls. Even so, the model probably depicts a closed building, rather than a house with a central courtyard, judging from the arrangement of the rooms with the built-in benches.

Until recently this model was considered unrelated to actual contemporary buildings, since such round houses had only been found from much earlier periods. But after the discovery of two Early Dynastic round houses approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, this assumption had to be revised.

Our piece was found in four scattered fragments in a private house, called the Maison Rouge. Its restoration is based upon an undamaged twin found nearby, buried under the Early Dynastic street pavement. It was surrounded by a circle of unfired bricks. Inside the model were more than thirty-four miniature vessels.
