Description

Syria produced a great number of bronze votive figurines meant to be placed in sanctuaries. According to a recent study, three quarters of the 2000 figurines that have come down to us represent gods, almost all of them male, shown in war-like poses. This one, which was cast in one piece using the lost-wax method, represents the Hittite god of war Teshub. He bears a bow in his left hand and a curved sword in his right.
