Tablet: will

Scribes did not always work as government bureaucrats. They also drafted private contracts between people and drew up wills, and were thus seriously involved in civic affairs. The will inscribed on this tablet concerns the sharing of a man’s property among his children. The witnesses rolled their cylinder seals on the back of the envelope that contained the will.
